I don’t believe in school bashing, but obviously, someone out there does. One of the government people (who shall remain anonymous) I’ve known over the years sent me over these YouTube videos from another school. Oh my, if I hear the word “bamboozled” one more time (I’ll let your imagination fill in the blank). The videos left me feeling like I had been slimed with an eel coated with BP oil straight from the Gulf. Not a good feeling. Not only were these videos bashing other prep schools, they were also full of scare tactics to potential clients. I really enjoyed watching the testimonials while I was talking to one of their students who failed his trade exam with a miserable 43% and couldn’t get his money refunded because no one would return his calls after he pointed out that their information was old. It also would have helped if he had been told to take the exam he actually qualified for. Told the poor guy you can go to all the schools you want, but if you don’t have the experience, you won’t pass the test for a long while and then you won’t get that license, but have to settle for the proper license that you would have passed the test for in the first place.
So, this morning, as tempting as it was, I really wanted (want-it is 3:50 am) to put my hair in curlers, throw on a moo-moo, and make my own parody YouTube video about why it is so very, very, very unprofessional to school bash, especially when the format you are bashing is one you used to teach. Can you say, “Disgruntled Employee?”
This person also talked about being bamboozled by getting surprised on exam day by having pilot questions thrown at you. Yep, pilot questions have always been a part of taking proctored exams. They have to try out new stuff and see if it works.
And it’s no big secret…Just go to: https://www.myfloridalicense.com/dbpr/servop/testing/ConstructionExamInformation.html
Exam references are there, information on how they come up with the exam, list of schools and book stores, candidate information bulletin with a breakdown of the subject matter they test on, etc…Oh, and information in several places on pilot questions. There are no secrets…
There is nothing hidden about the exams. And different schools have different methods because people are different. What may work for one student may not work for another. No big deal – go to a school that fits you better. There are several good schools out there.
Oh, and the icing on the cake: I get SPAMMED (5 emails) by this school peddling Grandfathering applications and in their email, there is wrong information they are sending out to potential grandfathering candidates. I haven’t laughed that hard in SUCH a long time!
Now, what you SHOULD be afraid of is putting in a bogus application to the State or paying off some exam prep instructor or licensed buddy to use his license and/or jobs you didn’t work on to get by on experience without actually having any. These license applications are LEGAL documents and (sorry to sound “basic”) but those bogus applications can come back and bite you in the rear later on…
I hope everyone has a wonderful day! And remember, got good fortune? Pay it forward-donate time or money to your kids’ sports league, to your local homeless charities, etc…If we all do just a little bit to spread the love, we make our world a better place!
